Icelandic as a second language

Menntaskólinn á Tröllaskaga (MTR) offers courses in Icelandic as a second language (ÍSAN) at two levels: beginner and intermediate. These courses are taught online and offline.

The beginner's course is intended for students whose first language is not Icelandic. The course corresponds to levels A1–A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The focus is on Icelandic vocabulary related to the students’ immediate environment, as well as pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills.

The intermediate-level course is designed for students who study Icelandic as a foreign language and already speak and understand the language reasonably well. Students continue to develop the essential elements of the language and build a more advanced vocabulary while strengthening their listening, writing, reading, and speaking skills.
